I confess, I LOVE ice cream. Can’t get enough of the stuff. And it comes in sooo many different flavours! So, what’s not to love?!
Well, as I’m sure you’re aware, ice cream isn’t the healthiest of yummy foods, as it contains a lot of sugar and fat. So, when I heard it was possible to make a healthier version of ice cream using banana, I decided I had to try it out. Now, I’m not saying you should never eat regular ice cream again, because – as my dad always says – “a little of what you fancy does you good”, but, after trying this banana ice cream, you might not want to!
What’s crazy is that I’m not even a big fan of banana – I find it too sickly sweet, which may be because I ate a few too many when I was younger (aka why I gained the nickname ‘Hannah Banana’) – but even I like this ice cream. And, honestly, it’s the easiest thing in the world to make, and really healthy too, as it just uses bananas and a tiny bit of milk.
Here’s how to whip up some for yourself:
- Slice a few bananas into small-ish chunks, then place them in a container in the freezer.
- Once completely frozen, remove the banana from the freezer and chuck them into a food processor along with a splash of milk (you can use a non-dairy alternative to milk here, instead, if you want).
- Blend the banana and milk together on a medium setting until the mixture looks like soft scoop ice cream.
- Tip: to make different flavours you can add things like peppermint essence, frozen berries, or, my personal favourite – cocoa powder. Bear in mind that the ice cream will likely still have a hint of banana flavour, so make sure you don’t add something that won’t go well with the banana.
Aaaaand there you have it – your very own, healthy, ice cream! Wasn’t that simple? If you decide to try it, leave me a comment to let me know how it turned out!
*Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of the ‘ice cream’ as me and my family always eat it all wayyy too fast..! So here’s a summery photo instead*
